THE SNP apologised to police after a picture of two officers was put on a leaflet distributed as part of the party's Glasgow East by-election campaign, it was reported last night.
The leaflets, posted through doors in the city, featured Kenny MacAskill, the justice secretary, with the officers, one of whose face was visible.

The leaflets, which also pictured Glasgow East SNP candidate, John Mason, had the slogan: "SNP On Your Side – Fighting Back Against the Gangs".

Central Scotland Deputy Chief Constable Iain MacLeod, whose officers feature on the pamphlet, reportedly said the image had been used without the knowledge of the force.

An SNP spokeswoman said the party had issued an apology to the officers involved through the Scottish Police Federation and that the leaflets had now been withdrawn.

She added: "The police are an apolitical organisation who are doing a fantastic job in Glasgow East and across the country."

Since the police are completely apolitical how can the deputy chief constable claim they DON'T support the SNP? I very much doubt he would have taken this stance on a Labour leaflet.

Unbelievable...the whole point about being apolitical is that the police don't support anyone...how easy is that to grasp....using the police as a political pawn after the SNP u-turn on police numbers is downright embarassing

I remember photos of Jack McConnell campaigning with Police in 2003 Scottish Elections. Also Nigel Griffiths used photos of him with local Clergy at last Westminster election even although they opposed his support for the illegalIraq War.

Any further updates on New Labour Sleaze and Corruption's retired serial swindler David Marshall???

Remember the words from Faither Cairns

"I would ask the media to give David (Marshall) and his family some privacy as he is suffering ill health"

Aye right - Maybe repetitive strain injury from continually counting his ill gotten gains???

Silly me.

There aren't any new recruits, are they.

By that I mean...

...after having compared numbers now with the the number from the day before Salmond took power...

No wonder there's such a stooshie.
