CONTINUOUS turmoil in equity, property and fixed-interest markets for the past three months has prevented me from taking a closer look at the problematic £2 billion Dundee-based Alliance Trust. But the sudden and unexpected resignation of chief executive Alan Harden, appointed only in 2004, now compels attention.
His signalled exit, coming fast on the heels of the equally sudden and unexpected departure of Janet Pope, the director in charge of the Alliance Trust & Savings subsidiary, will confirm the concerns of many that all is not well in Dundee.
