GREAT fireworks, stunning displays and overall a stupendous opening ceremony for the Beijing Olympics: a bullish signal for investors, or a dark warning?
What did it matter if, unobserved in the millions of gushing words on "the rise of China" or "the new Chinese century", the Shanghai stock market fell 4.5 per cent on the day the Olympic fireworks lit up the sky?

OK lots of doom & gloom. However the only relevant alleged actual facts given in the article is that Chima's stock market is now back down to a relatively sensible 1/17 earnings ratio (para 10)(not a bad thing) & that American & European markets are now contracting(actually they aren't quite in reccession yet) (2nd last para).

We should be doing something to improve our own economy rather than merely hoping for the failure of competitors.
