FALKIRK manager John Hughes and his Hibernian counterpart Mixu Paatelainen will not know until October whether they face action over their latest outbursts against referees.
Tuesday night's Co-operative Insurance Cup second-round ties involving the two clubs saw both men launch stinging attacks on officials. Following his side's 3-1 victory over Raith, Hughes laid into the Scottish Football Association's head of referees
, Donald McVicar.

And Paatelainen followed suit by slamming referee Iain Brines after seeing his side suffered the shock of the round so far, a 4-3 home defeat to First Division Morton.

Asked if the pair would face action over their comments, an SFA spokesman said: "That's a matter for the general purposes committee. The next meeting of the general purposes committee is in October."

Hughes' outburst followed comments from referees' chief McVicar that the Bairns manager was "mischief-making again" after he criticised Brines in the wake of Saturday's 3-0 Premier League defeat at Celtic.

Paatelainen was furious with Brines' performance in Tuesday night's match at Easter Road.

He explained: "We are 3-2 up and the referee gave a penalty against us when it hit Dean Shiels in his ribs. He has a red mark on his side. I've watched it on video and it's never a penalty, it does not hit his arm, and they score. For their fourth goal, I felt it was an assault on Chris Hogg. The referee is in a great position to see but he gives them a free-kick."

Paatelainen was sent to the stand by Brines for apparently throwing a towel to the ground as he aired his grievances.

He added: "I have not sworn or done anything else other than thrown my towel on the floor because I was so disgusted."

I'm sure both guys will have the backing of Dundee United.

Scottish referees are corrupt/cheats/utterly incompetent/Old Firm-biased/west coast-biased/all of the above (delete as appropriate)

"the Dundee United game" ???

Which one?

I've been watching United for 30 years and for as far back as I can remember, we regularly get shafted by the referee when playing you lot.

Maybe you were just referring to "the last game", perhaps?

That was when McCurry royally shafted us at Ibrox.

Or the one before that?

Shafted by Clark in the cup final.

Have you ever looked at the number of SPL referees, and compared that with the number who are given Rangers games? Have you noticed how some referees are given Rangers games again and again and again and again. Like some referees do Celtic games far more than others do. Yet it's not the same referees in each case ..... And some referees virtually never get a Rangers game to referee, even though they're an experienced grade 1 SPL whistler.

Why is that?

Levein was 100% right, and they know it.

NN Or Idee or whatever you call your paranoid anti HHun self these days. Levien was right, so was McPherson, Yogi and Mixu.

Rangers get a lot of dodgy decisions going their way, Celtc get a lot of dodgy decisions going their way..

You are two sides of the one coin. End of story.

The SFA and referee's are in cahoots and as corrupt as anything Italy has ever seen.

Shame on you both.

The SFA will not look at any of this objectively. Why? It's not in their best (OF) interests to. Nowhere else would you have 4 different managers from 4 different teams complain about officials and everyone of them get fined instead of the governing body doing it's job by launching a full scale inquiry into corruption, and incompetence.

Disgraceful,
Isn't it?

Let the SFA ans English FA get together and pool the referee's from both associations, have the referee's from England do SPL matches and the top Scottish referee's do Championship league matches.

If you are going to pay incompetent referee's 1k a match what would it cost to get the English officials to do the job.

At least English referee's are graded on their performance, and if found wanting are demoted to lower league games.

#10, WHere in my post do i assert or even imply in any way at all that rangers are not a bunch of cheating maggots?

I merely point out that your manky, shameful, bunch of underhanded and frankly repugnant excuse for an institution are equally guilty of blame and shame in the grand old tradition of Glasgow led corruption in this country.

As it is far, far easier for you and miriad others of your distasteful ilk to simply point the finger at the other grotesquery facing you in the mirror, than it is to accept that you are looking into your own reflection in them, yur own words have immeasurably more meaning when read back to you, so I quote;
'The truth is staring YOU in the face.

Have the guts to stare back at it!!'

I think Mixu's blatant assault on a completely innocent towel should be punished to the severest extent available. I imagine it will be treated similarly to the breach of the peace and criminal assault committed by Mr Smith during the Scottish Cup tie at Ipox last season and he will be banished to the stands for 30 minutes. I doubt it though.

Very difficult to predict the outcome of Sunday's match because of the overhaul in rearrangerz personnel.

Bougherra, Mendes and Miller are all likely to start as well as one or two other new signings which means that as much as 50% of the outfield players might be making their OF debuts.

All of Celtic's starters know the score in these matches and have a cohesion that comes from winning tiles and reaching the last 16 in Europe.

Still, you can't dismiss the possibility that rearrangerz might click and pull a big performance out of the bag...but to overcome Celtic, it is a big ask of a team that is still trying to find its feet.

Celtic will go into the match of the back of a very impressive second half performance against Falkirk...some of the football played during that 45 minutes was as good as anything I have ever seen from a Celtic side in the last 10 years.
The skill, strength, determination , imagination and accuracy of passing was of the highest order.

The players will be looking to build on that on Sunday.
At the moment, I'm on the horns of a dilema as regards whether I would like to see Jan fit.

If he is fit, it's a racing certainty that Strachan will start him , but I have two concerns about that :

1. Will he link up with Maloney as well as Sami ? ( and BTW, I think reports about maloney's training knock have been wildly exaggerated.)

2. Even if he does, will Jan show the same composure as Sami in the box ?

On both counts, I have big doubts.

If you are right and Lafferty starts, and Walter isn't bluffing about starting the American bloke, then that would be, by my reckoning, 5 of the new signings, to wit, Bogherra,Mendes,Miller,Lafferty and the American bloke.

Off-course, it's not a debut for Miller, but then there is probably more pressure on him than any of those who will be making their debut...it's even worse than a debut for Miller, much, much, worse.

Whilst rearrangerz concentrate their efforts on the Scottish domestic scene, the name of The Champions will popping out a hat over in Nyon later this afternoon.

Having a look at the possible group stage contenders, we could get lucky here : there are one or two very beatable teams in bothe pots 1 and 2 and there are some 'never 'eard of them' in pot 4.

If the draw is kind to Celtic, we'll have a realistic chance of becoming the first Scottish club to win a group which would do our chances of reaching the last 8 a power of good.

Au contraire, the draw could be devillishly unkind : one possibility would be Chelsea, Bayern and Fiorentina.

Winning all our home games is vital and under Strachan we have, in the group stages , a 100% record.

Even if you add on our two last 16 matches we've lost only one from a total of 8 matches, a statistic that ANY club in Europe would be proud of....it is 19 points from a possible 24 at the highest level of club football on the planet.

BUT....our away form is , without any doubt, at the other end of the spectrum. There was nothing in any of our away performances last season to give me hope for the coming one. We lost badly in Shakthar, there was a glimmer , perhaps, in Benfica, and we were flat in Milan.

So, one can only hope that the team is simply more experienced and ever more determined to get this monkey off our backs. I won't be concerned about losing away to the pot 1 team, but would be chuffed to see us draw away to the pot 2 team and win away against the pot 4 team. That would constitute massive progress.
