NEW Motherwell signing Bob Malcolm insists he has nothing to prove following his return to the SPL.
The 27-year-old, who can play in midfield or defence, joined the Fir Park club on Tuesday until the end of the season after being released by Derby last month.

He quit Scotland in September 2006 after being deemed surplus to requirements by then R
angers manager Paul Le Guen.

But Malcolm is relishing his new challenge at Motherwell and insisted: “I don’t think I’ve got anything to prove to anyone. I just want to play football again and I am thankful to the manager [Mark McGhee] and Leitchy [Scott Leitch] for giving me that opportunity.

“I’ve played at the top level of the SPL before so I am well aware of what is required and the demands involved with playing in the top league in the country, so there’s no reason why I can’t do it again.”

Malcolm believes his time with both Rangers and Derby provides him with the necessary experience to help Motherwell secure the coveted third place in the SPL.

He added: “I can hopefully add a bit of experience to the squad. I’ve been in this situation at the top end of the table before with Rangers and last season with Derby so I fully know, understand and appreciate the pressures that go along with it.

“I have no doubt with the skill and ability we have in the squad at Motherwell we can go on and finish third and qualify for the Uefa Cup.”

Motherwell boss McGhee admits his players have struggled against stronger teams in the league and hopes Malcolm will add some much-needed brawn to his squad.

He told www.motherwellfc.co.uk: “He’ll bring a physical presence, but he is also a very good passer of the ball.

“If you look at the Hearts game last Saturday, we lost because they were that little bit physically stronger and Bob will help to address that. He will suit the way we play and I think he’ll enjoy our style.”
