CAMPBELL Ogilvie, Hearts' managing director, has underlined his commitment to the Tynecastle club by revealing he has turned down an opportunity to leave Tynecastle.
Ogilvie, who celebrates a three-year anniversary at Tynecastle this week after a previous, 27-year period at Rangers, sought to allay fears over the long-term health of the Edinburgh outfit by insisting he is fully committed to the cause.

Vladimir Romanov's ownership style may have prompted controversy in certain quarters, yet Ogilvie remains fully behind the Lithuanian tycoon.

"People inside this club; the staff, the management, players and the supporters, I enjoy working with them," Ogilvie said. "I had the chance to leave here for another club about a year ago, when you could say that things were a bit rocky and it would maybe have led to a quieter life, but I am still here.

"I am not saying there are loads of jobs out there for me but I did have the opportunity to go.

"There is a warmth to this club, though."

Speaking exclusively to The Scotsman in a wide-ranging interview, Ogilvie also emphasised his wish to see Hearts play Europa Cup football – that tournament will replace the Uefa Cup next season – at Tynecastle.

He added: "My personal view would be that we should play at Tynecastle and I will make that representation to the board ahead of the Uefa licensing process in February."

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Ogilvie offers heartfelt defence of Romanov and predicts bright future

DalryJambo,

Edinburgh 27/11/2008 00:37:52
No he doesn’t.

We played our last European campaign at Murrayfield as for a period of time Tynecastle was unsuitable for UEFA games. Changes had been made to the pitch dimensions to meet UFEA standards (or at least make the appeal more likely to succeed, as with other clubs) but it was decided that the larger gate receipt potential at Murrayfield was a better option for the club. Unfortunately the lack of atmosphere badly affected the team performances.

Ogilvie is basically saying he thinks we should play any future European games at Tynecastle, as it will provide a better atmosphere for everyone involved.

Lonely in here for you eh?

Hibs and Hearts should build there own ground TOGETHER on a greenfield site, also use it as a state of the art gig venue etc. This will get both clubs on track with sponsorship etc. The Dundee's should do the same.
The OF are crumbling, no one with real quality wants to play there but I get the feeling that the rest of the SPL is going backwards too. SPL needs a good kick with clubs facing realities, part of which is to work together with sound commercial management.

Anyway,

Non OF bigger teams (Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen etc) need to consolidate, pull together and turn the SPL around as clearly the OF will never achieve this.

Star o' Rabbie Burns,

New Cumnock, CUMNOCK 27/11/2008 08:28:59
Pity we cannot comment on Smudger Smith's comments, but the usual suspects would divert it to their mutual invective.

Scottish football is in a mess; 55-years ago at Wembley Puskas's Hungarians exposed British players' techncal failures - fair enough - they were good. On Tuesday night the Aalborg players were technically better than Celtic; better touch and control, more sophisticated tactically. We're going backwards.

I don't think we've got the coaches to force through the necessary changes, or the boardroom will to ensure the coaches do this. Our players are over-paid prima donnas and, sadly, the post-Real Madrid v Eintracht comment from an SFA blazer is probably still true: the Scottish fans still wouldn't stand for that kind of football.

I don't know what we do, but doing nothing or simply throwing money at second or third rate foreign players isn't an option.

How about the Scottish approach, rolling up your sleeves and working at your skills and fitness. Scottish football has, in the last 25-years produced just one world class talent - Gordon Ramsay.

By the way - Campbell Ogilvie, you've helped in this sorry statistic.
16

Addie,

27/11/2008 08:32:14
#12 You mean the quality you show in Europe?

On the topic of boring, I see you are still trying desperately to get a rise.

Now that is boring.
17

Johnny Jambo,

27/11/2008 08:40:41
#12, Is this the Rangers team that lost in Europe to Kaunas, where is the quality in that.
I think that with regard to the SPL Rangers and Celtic are certainly the best of a bad bunch but don't tell us that Rangers are a "Quality" Team.
Incidentally Celtic, losing out in Europe to Aalborg, are in the same category only they got a bit further in the CL.
18

Wee Pal Joe,

27/11/2008 08:46:04
"Is this the Rangers team that lost in Europe to Kaunas" (#17)

Not really. The Rangers team is surely a good bit better now than in that early season tie - not that any team in Scotland is among the best in Eruope.
19

Johnny Jambo,

27/11/2008 08:51:50
#18 - It is the same Rangers team that lost to Kaunas, I did not mention players or anything specific I was talking about the club and that fact is that they did lose to Kaunas, now whether they are a better team at this stage of the season is debatable and something we cannot prove unless the exact same situation was played out which it won't.
Rangers are a slightly better team than most of the SPL as are Celtic, but in Footballing terms, this season has proven that they are both very poor sides.

This "Admin man happy at Hearts" story is another major scoop for the Scotsman; following on from yesterday's scoop on the 3 injured Hibs players recovering from injury, the Scotsman is setting standards that the other Scottish media organisation will struggle to emulate. Keep up the good work Scotsman.

Being owned by a minor Eastern European bank the collapse of the International inter-bank lending system could result in a new Tynecastle song of "Flats, flats, glorious flats"....

It always amuses me that the Celtic fans accept the nil investment policy at their club. THey have got lucky in the following respects

Title 1: Meltdown at Rangers, Hertz chairman picking their teaml.
Title 2: PLG
Title 3: SPL help to make Rangers play 8 games in 17 days at the end of a long season.

The failure to invest at the P!ggery will now be fully realised.

Your half baked analysis of the coroporate affairs at MIH and subsequent conflation of these to Rangers finances was most amusing. Whereas I simply quoted figures from the published accounts of Celtic. Truth is often found in simplicity.

49

_NB_,

27/11/2008 11:48:23
#49 and another thing about Loovens. He was in the last year of his contract yet, Celtic blew almost their entire transfer budget of £3 million on him. Ok so he may play 30 games this season. that woorks out at 100k per game! Celtic have wasted what little money they have on this waste of space.

Amusing in its predictability. The tims get a shoeing from the Danish equivalent of Kille, and the deflect and deny brigade post up their amateur accounting theories on MIM finances.

Campbell Ogilvie is the finest football administrator of his generation, and in this country. I hope the job offer was from Rangers, and is to be folloewd up by another improved offer soon.
