HIGHLAND League teams got the better of South of Scotland League opponents to reach the second round, but both first-round replays were not as comfortable as had been predicted for the home teams.
Brora Rangers needed extra time to see off Newton Stewart 2-1 at Dudgeon Park. Sam McKay struck the winner five minutes into extra-time when he created space in the penalty box before firing home.

Brora had scored midway through the first half w
ith a close-range Jake Inglis goal, only for Newton Stewart's James McColm to strike a 48th-minute equaliser. Forfar await the Highland club in round two.

Forres Mechanics dispatched Wigtown & Bladnoch out of the cup and ensure a miserable return on their 270-mile trip home thanks to a 2-0 win at Mossett Park.

Nathan Sharp headed in after 15 minutes to set George Winton's side on their way and substitute Kenny Hendry nodded in the second with 12 minutes left to set up a meeting with Highland rivals, Keith.

In an all-East of Scotland Premier Division clash, Selkirk beat Borders rivals Coldstream 3-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Yarrow Park, and will now play Dalbeattie Star in the next round.

Selkirk, however, should have had the tie won in normal time. Leading through goals from John Waldie and Ewan Pritchard with five minutes left, they allowed the visitors to stun them with late strikes from Matthew Travis and Jason Ingles to force extra-time.

The second-round ties will be played on 25 October.
