ELGIN City were made to pay for allegedly slighting Third Division leaders Albion Rovers in their match programme as the Coatbridge side won 2-0 at Borough Briggs. Striker David McFarlane headed home after 31 minutes and midfielder Mark Canning shot home from 20 yards four minutes later to leave the Morayshire side casting dark glances at their programme editor.
Rovers manager Paul Martin said: "We were better than Elgin and this defeat will presumably have come as a big shock to them as according to their programme we are a poor side with no history. Whoever wrote that did my team talk for me. We respected
them as opponents, but it looks like they did not return the same courtesy."

Elgin manager Ross Jack said: "Once Albion Rovers got ahead they were very solid and we just never moved up enough gears."

East Stirling manager Jim McInally steered his side to a 1-0 win over Berwick Rangers at Ochilview. The visitors suffered from not playing to the whistle as just after half-time striker Andy Rodgers ignored a dispute over a throw-in to race onto a Paul Weaver pass and shoot past Mark Peat.

Berwick struck the woodwork through Alan Brazil in the first half and Jamie Ewart in the second and they knew the points would be staying with the home side when goalkeeper Jamie Barclay, who had been released from Scotland under-21 duty earlier in the day by national coach Billy Stark, made a last-gasp save to deny Chris McMenamin.

McInally said: "I have to thank Billy as Jamie ensured we got the win."

Berwick manager Jimmy Crease said: "We knew we were out of luck the second time we hit the woodwork."

Forfar lost 1-0 at home to Livingston with visiting striker Robbie Winters firing in the winner in 13 minutes. However, Forfar manager Dick Campbell claimed referee Brian Colvin had denied his side an equaliser by failing to notice that a Chris Templeman header had crossed the goalline.

Stranraer won their first away game of the season when substitute Martin Jack sent a back header over Scott Black in injury time to defeat Queen's Park 2-1 at Hampden. Barry Douglas had put Queen's Park ahead, but after their skipper Richard Sinclair was sent off for conceding a penalty the game turned Stranraer's way. Danny Mitchell missed the spot kick but Michael Moore nodded a leveller before Jack's winner.

Bottom side Montrose lost again as Annan won 2-0 at Galabank in a game where referee Thomas Robertson booked ten players and sent the visiting Chris Hegarty off in injury time.

Annan boss Harry Cairney said: "It's a good job I don't play these days or I'd be sent off very quickly."
