Warburton’s Brentford replacement sacked after 9 games

Marinus Dijkhuizen, the man who replaced Mark Warburton as manager of Brentford, has been sacked after just nine matches.

He leaves the club 19th in the Sky Bet Championship with two wins. Lee Carsley, the former Everton midifielder, has been appointed as his successor.

Dutchman Dijkhuizen’s assistant Roy Hendriksen has also left Griffin Park, with development squad coach Carsley promoted from within.

Brentford recruited former Excelsior manager Dijkhuizen, who had a short spell at Dunfermline as a player, in the summer following the departure of Warburton.

The Rangers manager had steered the club to promotion from League One and into the Championship play-offs at the first attempt but left due to differences with owner Matthew Benham over the future direction of the team.

Warburton’s assistant, David Weir, followed him to Ibrox.

l Rotherham manager Steve Evans and assistant Paul Raynor have left the club following a meeting with chairman Tony Stewart. The club said both parties “wished to head in a different direction” and the pair depart New York Stadium after three and a half years in the job.

First-team coach Eric Black has been appointed interim boss as the South Yorkshire club.

Scotsman Evans, 52, quit as manager of Crawley to take on the job at Rotherham in April 2012, and in his first full season steered the club to promotion from League Two.

Rotherham made it back-to-back promotions under Evans the following season and he was rewarded with a new three-year contract.
