Hibs beat Hearts kids in Youth Cup Tynie shock

Hibs shocked Hearts as their Under-19 side sent the Gorgie outfit crashing out of the SFA Youth Cup at Tynecastle.

The Easter Road youngsters had gone into the fourth round tie having been hammered 4-0 by their Capital rivals earlier in the season and with Hearts sitting second in the league.

But Ross Caldwell's goal was the difference in an evenly contested tie which saw Hearts reduced to ten men when goalkeeper Connor Fairley was sent off after handling outside his area.

Caldwell struck ten minutes into the game when Hearts were caught on the counter-attack, the youngster collecting a through ball from Marc Lancaster before rounding Fairley to slot home from a tight angle.

Hearts were pressing for an equaliser and had Hibs under pressure when Fairley got his bearings wrong in the 66th minute, handling outside the area and leaving referee Dougie Potter with no option to send him off.

Hibs almost took full advantage of the resulting free-kick, Scott Smith's powerful shot clipping a Hearts player and zipping just wide.

Easter Road goalkeeper Callum Ansell, who had saved bravely at the feet of Scott Robinson, twice saved well from Denis Prychynenko before Robert Ogleby was unlucky to see a 79th minute shot crash off the bar.

Hearts were lucky, however, not to also have Jack Hamilton sent off, the substitute goalkeeper, like Fairley, handling outside the area. But on this occasion he escaped with a yellow card, much to Hibs' surprise.
