Inverleith eye cup semi

INVERLEITH are expected to breeze through Sunday's Scottish hockey cup quarter-final clash at minnows Granite City Wanderers, writes NIGEL DUNCAN.

The Edinburgh side are fourth place in Division One while the North-East outfit are third in Division Three.

The Peffermill-based side warm-up with a home fixture against unbeaten Division One pace-setters and defending champions Kelburne tomorrow.

Inverleith have won six of their ten games while their opposition from Bellahouston have an unblemished ten-game record including a comfortable recent win over the Edinburgh side. Kelburne, the defending champions, also have a goal difference of plus 70 against Inverleith's plus seven.

Edinburgh University aim to strengthen their grip on top spot in Division 1B when they host fourth-placed Hillhead and second-bottom Watsonians have a crucial clash with rock-bottom and pointless Stepps at Tipperlin. In Division Two, leaders Cala Edinburgh, visit fifth-placed Harris and second-bottom Waverley Inveresk Trinity have a must-win game at Greenock, who are two points above them but have played two fewer games.
