Richie Ramsay rues 'awful day'

RICHIE Ramsay is still trying to come to terms with the agonising way he missed out on a chance to clinch a spot in the US Open in a fortnight's time.

The Aberdonian admitted he felt physically sick after a qualifying play-off went ahead at Walton Heath without him.

"I can't believe they played when it was pitch dark," said Ramsay, who had left the course thinking play would spill into a second day only to discover differently after he missed a flight and returned at 9.30pm.

"It's just been an horrific day - just an awful, awful day," added the former US Amateur champion.

Stephen Gallacher was among the 11 qualifiers and will be making his first US Open appearance since 2005 at Congressional.
