Rugby: Eagles fly high with Vernon

Edinburgh EAGLES have bolstered their squad ahead of the new Scottish rugby league season by re-signing former Gateshead Thunder Hooker Dave Vernon.

The brother of Scotland rugby union international Richie Vernon, he has returned to Scotland following a spell in Australia.

Capped at both Scotland Students and Scotland 'A' level, Vernon is the fifth player in the Eagles ranks to have professional experience, following the resigning of ex-Workington Town forward Paddy Coupar and the trio of Giles Lomax, Nick Broere and Craig Borthwick being involved in the full Scotland Squad for last year's European Cup.
