CHINA yesterday offered the Taiwanese people a gift of two pandas but rejected an invitation for Hu Jintao, the Chinese president, to visit Taiwan. Of the invitation, China said Taiwan’s ruling party must first abandon calls for independence.
The moves came as Taiwan’s opposition leader ended a trip to China.
