Investment in Scotland is part of a partnership with the country and its productive skills
DO THE services aimed at the Scottish public reflect the full range and diversity of life in this country? Does the BBC commission enough network production from Scottish programme-makers?

Engine of creativity eh. Would that be from organisation which uses our money to commission and produce, cooking and makeover programmes by the bucket load, and wastes £16m on a payments for load-mouthed 'star'?

How can Scottish creatives compete in the giddy BBC world of celebrity chefs? Will English viewers understand Rab C's rantings? Do they care?

There is nothing to stop Scottish Creatives from developing and producing content to be shared, viewed and enjoyed online by world-wide audiences. As their fans have discovered many maginative musicians and film-makers are already doing this without public subsidy.

Given the easy public access to exiting digital technology and facilities there is little need for tax-payers money to be further squandered.

It was an interesting speech; however, we return at the end to Scotland being bracketed (along with Wales and Ulster)as a region. Mr Thompson is correct in saying that we need vibrant media in Scotland, both paper and TV - all smaller countries do. We will need something similar to a Scottish Broadcasting Corp. plus independents, as well as flourishing quality newspapers. We need the obvious: independence.

BBC will have to tear it's self away from
the Glasgow region and cater for licence payers in other regions such as Aberdeen,Edinburgh,Dundee and Inverness.
Football should be outwith the Scottish bulletins and given into separate sports news slots where they can talk about the Old Firm without ramming it down east coast throats.

Time for a Scottish Broadcasting Corporation on terrestial platform (until we all go digital)
Then on digital platform folk could still watch English dominated BBC channel.
Recent Question Time TV programme from Stirling had no Scottish political questions and this is par for the course yet we have to watch day after day this and other news programmes English Education Health Legal and other devolved issues which don't directly effect Scotland (but Scottish situation is never covered or explained).

I´m not au fait with the nature of BBC broadcasting in Scotland but I can imagine its failings . The BBC serves neither the interests of Scotland , England or the UK . Their overseas services are an appalling homage to all things African , Asian , climate control and PC . As an organisation it is profroundly anti British . Compare that to CNN , Deutsche Welle , NHK etc who´s programmes , values , presentation and promotion of national interest remain far superior to the BBC . And for this self indulgent organisation the taxpayer is forced to pay . Reform can only proceed if the BBC´s funding is provided by advertising and other outside activities .

Last night I watched part of a programme which had Gregor Fisher (Rab C Nesbitt) as one of main actors.

What amazed me was that his speaking part was entirely in standard English without any Scots Dialect words.

Has this always been the case or is this a new tack as I had expected to have a little difficulty in understanding at least some of the banter.
