THE BBC went almost £36 million over the intended budget for its website in the past year, it was disclosed yesterday.
The BBC Trust published its conclusions after completing an extensive review of the site. The trust revealed that in 2007-8 the actual spend on bbc.co.uk was £110 million, 48 per cent higher than the baseline budget of £74.2 million, with an upper limit of £81.6 million.

Most of this increase was not overspend, but due to a misallocation of £24.9 million in overheads and costs to other budgets within the BBC, representing poor financial accountability, the trust found.

Yet another reason they should scrap the iniquitous television tax, and force the EBC to compete on the open market.

Not that we'll get much support from Westminster for this, as they all seem to claim for their television tax in their dodgy expenses claims. Some, like Maggie Broon, even claim for their Sky Television subscriptions.

The BBC website contains a host of valuable information. We use it on pretty much a daily basis. However it is just about impossible to navigate. There are multiple start pages, broken or circuitous links and poor search functions.
