AUCTIONEERS said they were "shocked and stunned" yesterday when a silent two-and-a-half-minute film of The Beatles failed to sell.
The footage, shot in 1964 during the band's tour of Scotland, is thought to be unique and was expected to fetch up to £12,000.
But the lot failed to meet its reserve price of £4,800 at the sale of music and entertainment memorabilia held by Cameo Auctioneers.
The 8mm colour film features clips of the band and their entourage at the Four Seasons Hotel in St Fillans, on the banks of Loch Earn.
The group stayed at the hotel for two nights in October 1964 to play a show in Dundee, having travelled from a gig in Edinburgh. The film is thought to be the only surviving footage of their time at the hotel.
The footage was the most expensive item to go under the hammer in Midgham, Berkshire. It was to be sold with copyright as part of an auction that also included vinyl records, autographs and original artwork.
