PASSENGERS in central Scotland face significant rail disruption next month during junction work near Edinburgh.
Trains on the main Edinburgh-Glasgow line will be halved in frequency to half hourly and take 20 minutes longer from Saturday, 11 to Friday, 17 October.

The Edinburgh-Bathgate line, which is being double tracked from Newbridge junction, will also be shut from 11-19 October.

Is this (and other closures) really necessary.
Poor old BR managed to do most of what Network Rail requires to close lines without having to do so.

Please don't tell us that when the line re-opened they laid the single track up the middle of the old trackbed.

I hope they aren't stupid enough to do this on the Waverley Line.

This is in connection (pardon the unintended pun) with the much vaunted and most welcomed rebuilding and reopening of the ENITRE Helensburgh/Balloch-Glasgow-Airdrie-Bathgate-Edinburgh/North Berwick (Dunbar/Reston/Berwick upon Tweed?)line, which will give FOUR disparate rail routes between Scotland's two major cities! Ironically it will be the SECOND to be fully electrified (as is that via Motherwell-Carstairs-Kirknewton) but still only a secondary route compared to the main E&G from Queen St thro' Falkirk High to Waverley! Maybe a few more 'sparks' would ""set the heather alight""!
