I have no problem with football commentators on television but the pundits that sit alongside them are often irritating. Are they all products of the Ron Atkinson school of gobbledegook?
"I tell you what", why is it that an angled forward pass is described as a "reverse" pass? Since when did a goalpost become a stick, or a leg become a peg? I always thought a nutmeg was the spicy fruit of an evergreen tree but apparently it's a pass between an opponent's legs.
A cross becomes a "ping" and I really don't want to know what fetish a sweet left foot is all about.
With advertising revenue scarce do we really want retired professional footballers, who can't manage, mangling the English language?
