Wolves baulk at Balde's demands

WOLVES manager Mick McCarthy is still interested in a swoop for Bobo Balde but insists he is unable to meet the Celtic defender's wage demands.
Balde is reportedly earning around £30,000 a week at Parkhead, but would have the opportunity to play first-team football at Molineux.

McCarthy said: "We don't pay that kind of money as we're not in that market or that pay league, so it's a non-st
arter in that sense. But he has only one year left on his contract so he has the option of staying and taking the money or moving on; taking less but playing and having a longer contract.

"I enquired about his availability before the end of last season. I just asked a question then about what his financial position was. Balde has always been one I've liked because he is a big, powerful centre-half."

Meanwhile, Celtic are demanding a fee plus full payment of John Kennedy's wages for any loan period.

Motherwell are looking for a reduction in those terms and Norwich are waiting in the wings to meet Celtic's demands if a compromise cannot be agreed over Kennedy, who is keen to play for his local team having just become a father.

Jim O'Brien, who played for Motherwell in Wednesday night's 1-1 draw with Wolves, would also command a fee having refused a new contract offer from Celtic.

4 - couldn't agree more, more than £1.5m a year walking out the door for nothing is good news in my book. Now, if only we can get shot of Cousin :-)

No self respecting manager will offer Bobo Baldi a deal after that performance.

Looks like Celtic are stuck with the high earner.

The pressure is building on strachan & the fans are beginning to see through Lawwell's "bluechip" signing policy.

Cant wait for the season to begin.

If Celtic are "minted" it must those chocolate Yoyo's from the parkhead biscuit tin.

So far, Paddy McCourt looks like being the extent of Celtics summer signings.

As long as Celtic fans hold your way of thinking, Lawwell will keep ripping the pesh.

Celtic are "minted"? Strachan doesn't think so. He has warned Celtic fans not to get too excited about the possibility of signings:

"Fans like to see new players arriving, of course they do. It's like kids going for sweeties. One says, 'I want sweeties' and then another one says, 'I want sweeties as well.' We're trying our best to make new signings but what do we do?

"Do we just say, 'Right, okay, here's a player' just to keep them happy? I've got to keep the players happy. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to get a couple of new players in but if it can't work then it can't work."

Balde, Gravesen and Donati are drawing down over 20% of Celtic's wage bill. They are a financial burden that Celtic can ill afford. Keep up the good work lads!

You really are as thick as they come. WGS has made some serious blunders in the transfer market with the likes of Graveson and Donati. Samaras looks like another one. How much did your minted team spend last summer? I think it was a huge £0M net spend. I think that they are hoping that they can get a few bob for Fat Arty before WGS can spend. It`s not looking good over at Breeze-block Boulevard.

It`s all quiet on here today ... have the Celtic minded actually had a reality check and noticed that Rangers are stronger and they are not. Unless Rangers get tae another Euro final (and even I think that unlikely) then they should be too strong for Celtic as it stands. I think McDonald will struggle tae score over 20 this season and Samaras is not the answer. Davie Weir must be laughing up his sleeve as Celtic don`t have any pace up front.

Celtic don't need to make any signings over the close season. We've got a young, ambitious, championship winning team already and they are just getting into their stride. Compare with Rangers, where Wattie is desperately trying to rebuild an ageing and tiring side and being forced by the inflationary market to pay top dollar for mediocre lower league journeymen.
