DRIVERS caught parking in Edinburgh's "greenways" face having their cars towed away under a crackdown being launched next week.
NCP has promised a zero-tolerance approach when it takes over the job of patrolling bus lanes. Drivers face a £60 fine and having to pay £105 to get their car out of the pound if it is towed.

One can debate the merits of this regulation but there is no point having a law which is not enforced

You are allowed to park in the greenways - this is all bluff from NCP. I hope they know the rules as towing away is a last resort but the option that gives them the most money. Everybody getting a ticket or towed away should appeal.

I got towed away in the Borders last week, I was supposedly causing an obstruction tho I did not park anywhere illegal, it was apparently because there was insufficient space for a lorry to get through on a very quiet road, yet somehow the cars on the other side of the road, werenot the cause of the obstruction. it cost me 105 and about 40 in taxi fares. And It also placed me in a vulnerable position as I had taken the bus to Edinburgh (ironically to save on parking-and to my bit for the environment) came back at night to find no car. Should I appeal?

Greenways have a mixture of No Stopping areas, loading bays and parking bays.
Obviously the wardens shouldn't tow you when you are obeying the rules for a parking or loading area. However the no stopping areas:
Double Red lines - No stopping at any time
Single Red lines - No stopping in day/peak times
Anyone parking there can be ticketed and towed and generally there would be no grounds to appeal.

Generally the no stopping restrictions are there to allow the flow of the bus lanes or for safety on corners. If you are stupid/ignorant enough to park there you should get towed & fined.

As #1 says, there's no point in rules if they are not enforced. Where the signs/lines are in place there is no reason to get caught.

The revenue will make up for the losses the Council will incur from the latest extension of the controlled parking zone. Expensive meters, white lines and single yellows have erupted near me and now that they are operational every parking bay is empty. Commuting drivers just park a little further out of the centre before getting a bus or legging it.
If Edinburgh City Council stoppped thinking about how to make money out of congestion and started thinking about how to ease congestion, all of our lives would be better.

it's very selfish. Repeat offenders should have their cars crushed.
