DAME Judi Dench was today named the nation's favourite female role model in a survey carried out as part of a search to find the UK's real women of substance.
The actress came top of the poll of 1,000 British women between the ages of 18 and 65, 70 per cent of whom said she had real substance.

Dame Judi was followed by Joanna Lumley and Julie Walters, with JK Rowling and round-the-world yachtswoman Ellen McArthur in joint fourth position. The Queen came fifth.

The poll was conducted for the A Woman of Substance Awards, set up by author Barbara Taylor Bradford to coincide with the 30th anniversary of her bestseller of the same name.

The awards are intended to recognise and honour the ordinary women in the UK who are "unsung heroines".

Ms Taylor Bradford said: "It's great to see these acclaimed actresses, sportswomen and the Queen being recognised as strong female role models."

Judy Dench is a very fine actor with numerous awards..she is most definitly a good role model for young women who are aspiring to the stage...the woman is proof that hard graft, dedication and a love of your work will pay dividends...after all...for many of today's celebs or 'stars' 15 minutes of fame is all they are ever going to get....the 'reality' bin beckons and they will be crying into their sequins....
