The ABI said fraud added an average of £40 a year to motor insurance premiums.

There is another side of the coin too. My insurers raised my medical insurance by 48% this year for no good reason apart from "medical inflation". May have been my forehead fit to burst with apoplexy. Then I noticed our house insurance going up 12% - claim free for several years. Shopping around I can get £100 off or 27% off from a similarly reputable insurer. You have been warned! Car insurance is coming up shortly and it will similarly be getting "the treatment".

If there is fraud, and they should be able to uncover most of it, then the remedy is simple, blacklist anyone involved in fraud of this kind so they cannot get motor insurance again, anywhere, from anyone.

As for anyone subsequently found driving without insurance, or a licence, gaol them and crush their cars.

That way they can stop penalising ordinary motorists by way of ridiculous price hikes.
