MYSTERY surrounded the fate of an indiscreet Whitehall blogger last night, after she became the subject of a molehunt.
The online diarist, known only as "Civil Serf", has been titillating readers with tales of incompetence from within the government machine since last November.

She claims to be a middle-ranking 33-year-old civil servant and recently lampooned the Chancellor Alistair Darling's desperation to garner "cheap headlines" with his debut Budget on Wednesday.

Gordon Brown was branded "Velcro" because negative stories tended to stick to him – unlike his predecessor, "Teflon" Tony Blair.

And one post mocked Whitehall's culture of long meetings, stating: "I've received a meeting request that probably deserves a mention in the Guinness Book of Records. It is scheduled to last for a staggering seven hours."

However, after stories about her appeared in newspapers yesterday, the blog disappeared from view, fuelling speculation that Whitehall bosses had discovered her identity. She appears to have provided enough detail to be tracked down – including frequent references to welfare policy, and dates and locations of meetings she has attended.

Matt there,

Hope the blogger is OK. Unless it turns out to be a junior minister pretending to be a female civil servant?

It makes one seriously wonder, about the state the Political system in the Country would be like if the 'Official Secrets Act' was done away with - if they have the guts?

Its main purpose appears to be nothing more than a Political gag on the millions of people who have been involved - many compulsorily, in having to sign this document (or else!) especially the many minions in the Civil Service who work alongside, and sometimes with the Politicians, and really see 'What goes on and by who!' Yet, no matter what 'Woe betide they should make comments to anyone outside the 'system' about inefficiency, financial blunders waste - avoidable or not,' and that's only to do with what can be referred to as normal working procedures of a normal working activity - nothing to do with 'Security of the Country!' -which, of course, no doubt, was its original
reason for introduction - and rightly so, but not, as it has developed, because of 'Political' necessity, as a 'legal 'Cover up' for poor and inept workmanship controlled entirely by, and for, the protection of the 'offenders!'

Is it little wonder the Country is in such a poor state when 'the Management' seems so afraid of criticism and mostly - almost 100 per cent, cannot / will not / does not, accept responsibility when found to be wrong - illegally or otherwise, when the occasion arises - seemingly quite often nowadays!

What a well protected 'Club' they have become members of, seemingly run by and for, the total protection and furure well being of all members - as and when required as occasions arise - especially if they cannot be repressed internally!

Will it ever change - will pigs fly?

A seven hour meeting?

She probably took her own life.

The Gordon Brown described by the Civil Serf is exactly the one I know. It must have driven him absolutely bonkers. This strange, damaged man takes himself terribly seriously so being teased by a slip of a girl will have been extremely wounding. How did this weird guy ever become Prime Minister?
