A MULTIMILLION pound hair salon chain's "chaotic" stock management might explain almost £80,000 worth of missing goods, a court has heard.
The manager of a salon owned by the award-winning crimper Charlie Miller was charged with theft and fraud after hundreds of Good Hair Day (GHD) hair straighteners went missing.
Mark McMorrine, 37, made hundreds of sales of similar products on t
he internet auction site EBay and had payments to bank accounts amounting to almost £40,000.
However, at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, Mr Miller, 63, admitted discrepancies in stock levels, received stock and sales could "possibly" explain over 900 missing hair irons.
The court earlier heard that he had called in an investigating firm after 600 pairs of the hair irons were unaccounted for in an audit.
When accountants checked stock levels and banking, they found a further 300 GHDs as well as £12,500 unaccounted for. After reviewing CCTV tapes and checking for the hair irons on EBay, he suspended the stylist who was manager at one of his upmarket salons in Edinburgh.
McMorrine, of Lasswade, Midlothian, denies the theft of £76,000 of stock from the Ocean Terminal and South St Andrew Street salons between December 2004 and September 2006 and selling it. The trial continues.
