Threat of gas price rise

GAS and electricity users received another warning of impending price increases when Britain's second-largest supplier said it was becoming "more difficult by the day" to resist pressure to raise charges.
Ian Marchant, the chief executive of Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE), said the full impact on power prices of the global "energy shock" had still to be felt.
SSE, which is second to British Gas with nearly nine million customers, last increased its charges in April, the first for more than a year.
The Perth-based firm admitted it was now losing money in supplying gas and electricity to consumers because of increases in wholesale prices.
