HUGO Chavez, the left-wing Venezuelan president, last night appeared to win a referendum allowing him to rule for as long as he keeps winning elections.
Three exit polls showed Chavez won by between six and eight percentage points.

Just a few points The Scotsman 'forgot' to mention:

1) Chevez wants to stay in power to 2050 - he's 53 years of age so do the arithmetic. He wants to stay in power to age 96! We're not dealing with a left wing nut case then?

2) He will abolish the constitution that limits him to two terms in power. Unlike 'dictator Bush' who will stand down as per the US constitution.

3) He said whoever votes against him is voting for Bush.

4) He will personally take control of the central bank and therefore the oil revenue. Venezuela is the world's fifth largest oil exporter.

Not even Cheney and Rumsfield would try this but the Scots who hate america are quite happy to overlook this.

5) The same Scottish lefties who hate Bush will go silent on these issues and by doing so are (a) minimising and (b) trivialising Chavez's behaviour just like they did with the Soviet Union, Mugabe, Pol Pot, Kim Jong II.

Well done to The Times for going into more detail on Chavez.

No.1 - Chavez will not be restricted to two terms (the US system), but can retain power now if he is voted in (same as the UK system, and many others around the world). Where's the shock?

As far as the central bank - Cheney and Rumsfeld can't try this as the US central bank is not owned, controlled, nor answerable to the people. Nor the government.

Oddly enough the 3 exit polls carried out were done by the government. No independent polling allowed.

#2& #3-I've also heard where chavez did not win his referendum. I think the reporter didnt choose his/her wordings right.
