SALES of Y-fronts have increased by 35 per cent since the recession began, retailer Debenhams said yesterday.
The derided style of men's underwear has been the high-street giant's fastest-selling pants this year, outperforming more trendy boxers and trunks.

Last month, Y-fronts outsold boxer shorts for the first time since the early 1990s – the last time Britain was in recession.

And it is the standard white styles which are selling like hot cakes rather than the high fashion versions of previous years.

The store's spokesman Ed Watson said: "These are the sort of pants our fathers wore. They provide a much greater sense of security than boxers, and in these troubled times, perhaps that's what men need to feel."

I think it being a Saturday, I will wear my 'Black-One', and see if there is any 'Takers'!

Nonsense, Y fronts were always the way to go. You just threw them out and bought a new pair when they began to sag. Evidently drooping Y fronts was a definite turn off for the chosen partner.

Aye Cankers, but those were boxers. If Charles can fit into a thong, I reckon he should go for it.

I could mention hipsters, they were popular in the seventies. Low slung, over the hips. It was a sort of conversation piece for the girls, like "whose your friend" sort of peaking over his belt.

Do they still do 100% polyester Y-Fronts they did in the 70s? I have a funny story relating to a friend who once owned a pair, but it would not be decent to relate it here ;)

Is having a hotel for dogs a barking idea or not to be sniffed at?
Yes, they’re only dogs, they won’t appreciate it
No, pets deserve pampering too
If people are silly enough to pay for it that’s their problem
