THE people of Paisley enjoy a magic show – but not a lot, it would appear.
Magician Paul Daniels resorted to handing out flyers for his stage show in the town after selling only 139 tickets for a 400-seater venue.

The star and his wife, Debbie McGee, handed out flyers to shoppers and workers and urged them to buy tickets
for his gig at Paisley Town Hall. But despite the 71-year-old's efforts, only 139 were eventually sold.

Daniels said: "We spent an embarrassing day explaining to the shoppers what we were doing there and where we were appearing.

"Paisley Town Hall is a concert hall venue, but there is absolutely nothing on the outside to tell you what shows are on or coming.

"We did get an audience, but more would have been nice."

Last night, a spokesman for Paisley Town Hall confirmed that only 139 tickets had been sold for Daniels's gig last week.

A spokesman for Renfrewshire Arts and Museums said: "We share a common goal with any performer appearing at our venues – to maximise attendance.

"Sometimes, for whatever reason, attendance can be less than we had all hoped.

It's unfortunate there wasn't a bigger attendance on this occasion."

Is this little man and his dumb blonde still around? I thought that he had promised to leave Britain when liebor came to power in 1997. Him and Frank Bruno - a right pair! I wouldn't attend one of his shows if he had been handing out ten pound notes instead of flyers.

My cousin once hung up on squeaky PD thinking his call was a hoax. Debbie had to call my cousin back to convince him to take the call!
