SPAIN'S national TV broadcaster sacked its sports director yesterday after the station censored jeering and whistling during the national anthem at the Copa del Rey football final between Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona a day earlier.
Many spectators at Valencia's Mestalla stadium drowned the anthem with jeers and whistles, and the state channel cut to live reporters in Bilbao and Barcelona. It replayed the anthem at half time, with the jeering edited out.

The clubs are in two of Spain's more autonomous provinces. King Juan Carlos' arrival at the Mestalla was also greeted with jeers.

It's only censorship if you get caught. Otherwise it's just creative editing.

Wise choice double dog, seeing that I get censored in Scotland all the time, and that being another country doesn't justify it.

There was a time when the Western Nations were justifiably referred to as the free world.

Even the Scotsman has begun to censor this column rather heavily.

Orininally I believe it was established, for the purpose of providing a venue for the exchange of ideas and opinions!

Only approved opinions are now tolerated!

If the Spanish want to censor something, they could start with their barbaric treatment of bulls, and of animals in general.

i think spaniards should do something about the constant niose by barking dogs !!!! it is not civilized to have hundreds of dogs barking at anytime of day and night. the pavements are covered with dog feces where you have to constantly watch your steps !!!!
i guess to be the civilized europe it takes more then just the geographic position on the map!!!!
spanish have a long way to go .
