PIRATES chased and shot at an American cruise ship with more than 1,000 people on board but failed to hijack it as it sailed along a corridor patrolled by international warships.
The MS Nautica outran the pirates' speedboats in the Gulf of Aden on Sunday.

Why didn't the MS Nautica run them down and sink their vessel?

Eh, maybe the pirate speedboat was a bit more could twist and turn a bit better than a cruise ship? Maybe the cruise ship captain wasn't into playing games with 1000 passengers on board? I don't know:-)

What did the pirates use? A row boat?

They're probably feeling the brunt of the recession as well and need to conserve fuel.

I would certainly hope the west is planning a nice surprise for the pirates, and if not, why not.

A couple of militarized merchant ships should be able to do quite a bit of damage.

Unless the world's governments Muslim and otherwise are prepared to bomb the base of operations of these pirates the problem will not go away!

Could you even begin to imagine the consequences if they had taken the passenger ship the ??

It is only a matter of time before there is a loss of innocent life if the bases supporting the operations of the pirates are not bombed after each hijacking. The pirates cannot operate without a land based suport system.

Where's the real problem?,

The pirates would not be there if there were any kind of stable society in Somalia; imagine what it would actually be like to have no government.

I know what I want for my Christmas - a speedboat and a Kalashnikov!
