BRITAIN'S Got Talent star Susan Boyle is making YouTube history as her audition video tops a list of most-watched clips of all time.
Boyle's rendition of the Les Miserables classic I Dreamed a Dream has already been viewed more than 93.5 million times on the video website.

But the number of times people have actually watched the clip, across all outlets, could be nearer to 200 million.

The three-minute clip has been posted on YouTube by over 1,000 members. Combined, the clips have been viewed more than any others in the UK.

One clip alone has been seen nearly 39 million times, putting it straight into the YouTube list of top ten "most viewed" videos in the UK.

Whilst other top-ten clips have clocked up views over long periods of time, Boyle's audition has achieved the staggering number of hits in just 11 days.

Boyle "only learned what YouTube was in the last week" and does not own a computer. But her video is now more popular than clips from pop diva Leona Lewis and American President Barack Obama.

Sarah Wood, operations manager at Unruly Media, a video marketing specialist, said that in many ways the success had not been a surprise.

"It's an uplifting piece of content that has made a strong emotional connection with millions of viewers. Where this clip differs is the speed at which it has spread across the internet.

"Susan Boyle was 'discovered' back in 1999, but this was before social media existed. If we'd had YouTube, Twitter and Facebook in 1999, she would have been singing with Elaine Paige long before now."

Last week, people using Google in the US searched for "Susan Boyle" more than A-list celebrities Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek combined.

Niall McKinney, CEO of the leading trade marketing website, UTalkmarketing.com, said: "This whole phenomenon shows how much access people have to fame.

" To get the level of global promotion Susan Boyle has had would have previously cost record labels tens of millions of pounds and they wouldn't have spent that on a little-known star like her."

Dozens of websites have been set up by adoring fans, and domain names have been snapped up by people who hope to cash in on the "Susan Boyle effect".

A-list celebrities around the world have shown their support, with Hollywood couple Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher posting links to her YouTube clip on social networking site Twitter.

But PR guru Max Clifford warned that with such rapid success, Boyle will have to be protected.

He did not rule out the option of working with Boyle in the future.

He said: "If she's half as lovely as she seems, I'd love to guide her through the minefield that is stardom."

Yeah, I once watched a video of some guy lighting his farts on YouTube. Now I'm his biggest fan.

Ms Boyle has made it big indeed.

Will she be on the front cover of Sounds next week?

Looking around various websites on You Tube, Digital Spy etc - some people are getting a bit fed up with the massive hype of Ms Boyle. Will there be a backlash?

The thing that is a little worrying and very odd is some of the comments from the US. Some people seem to think she is either the second coming or "an angel come from Gawd to save us". Halleluiah!

Lets face it if she was a 22 year old blonde bombshell with a good voice it would have been 'Next'. Its the novelty factor that everyone's enjoying at the moment. Lets hope she can cash in on it before the next media circus starts.

She night be the spit o' Jim Baxter, but she sure can belt oot a song, although she's helped by the audience droonin' oot maist o' it! :)

Joanna,

Well it's aw starting to grate a bit, especially as she's not that brilliant, and she's also being exploited by the usual media vultures. It's no her fault, but you jist ken she'll pay for the faux-adulation later.

btw, I only said 'maist wummin', not all wummin! ;)

NOT!

Joanna,

You're right AJ - fame is a fickle mistress.

I thought your comment about the audience drowning her out was true. You can't really hear her voice because of them and Ant & Dec racing up to the camera like over-excited 6 year olds.

With an expert voice coach she could perhaps be very good, that's if the media don't finish her off first.

Joanna,

Hi Canky :))

You're right she is better at Cry me a river and you can hear her better as well.

I am a fan of some of the musicals and Les Mis is one of my favourites. Compared to someone like Ruthie Henshall singing 'I Dreamed a Dream' Susan isn't in the same class. But it was the words of the song which have added to the Susan story and her Dream.

I understand she's going to sing 'Whistle Down the Wind' next - not one I particularly like - she seems to want a career in the West End. I can't really see her playing many of the leading lady roles though.

I think she'd be better of going for the soul side of things as well. Mind you she has, apparently, reawakened interest in West End musicals and Les Mis inparticular so I suppose that's a good thing for them.

"A-list celebrities around the world have shown their support, with Hollywood couple Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher"

I make that 2, one I've never heard off.

This is like the emperors new clothes. I dont care what she looks like, but thousands of singers sound just like her and frankly I am baffled by this.

The sooner its over and done with the better , and you can bet it will be pretty soon.

It's patronising. completely baffled by it.

Just for the record , i really really hate musicals.

emotional garbage for halfwits who dont understand classical (or dare i say it - opera) .

"I'd love to rip as much money out of her as possible"
22

Joanna,

Christopher

I agree with you but its down to the novely factor and you're right it is patronising. She looks like that.... but she can sing! That's all there is to it really, she was set up for a fall by the programme producers who manipulated the audience into thinking they were going to have a laugh and then she proved them wrong.

Simple as that, she's of the moment until the next big thing comes along. Next week probably.

23

Joanna,

24/04/2009 11:06:52
novely = novelty

17..Hi Joanna..never heard of Ruthie H before...just listened to her and she has an amazing voice but too perfect for me...Susan's voice is rough and I feel emotion in it, I really do think she should go down the blues/soul/jazz route...

People are right...an overnight sensation that will blow over but the lassie is dreaming her dream...and good on her...she will, however..have a singing career at the end of it..of that I have no doubt...

Canky,

This is the 10th anniversary concert of Les Mis with Ruthie playing the part of Fantine.... I think she gets the tragedy spot on in this rendition. But, like I said I'm a fan of Les Mis and she is my eternal Fantine! :))

I think Susan Boyle has more of a chance of a singing career and getting some toffee (Highland of course) than auld Adonis AJ :))
27

Christopher André Breton Morris ,

24/04/2009 11:28:47
I really wish her well, i honestly do.

I hate the game not the player.

I'm just amazed how so many people can fall for this.

Watch the clip

the overdubbed laughter
the setup shot of susan eating a cake
Patti or whatever her name is orchestrating the crowd
Simon putting on his happy face
It goes on.
she's clearly told to march off the stage lke a halfwit at the end.

I give her more credence but if she wants to be a part of it she has to play the game.

Anyway Joanna , thanks . A rare voice of common sense.
28

Christopher André Breton Morris ,

24/04/2009 11:30:50
26 you are right, she will make some money out of it (not as much as Mr Cowell) but I hope she has the sense to realise it for what it is.

Here's hoping.

AJ #8,

Hi AJ, Aye, it's been quite a while right enough, been a wee bit busy. As for yer question, every man and his dug seems tae be talkin' aboot Miss Boyle ower here, and ah'm fair sick and tired o' people sendin me the clip. I also prefer her early clip of 'Cry me a River' and would love to hear her sing just tae please herself.

HC #14,

Sheesh, rubber suits indeed Canky, Ah gave that up whilst ah wis still limber enough tae get in and oot them. Mind you, a wee bitty baby oil helps, or cookin' oil. Onythin' but sump oil :0(
