2024 Royal Highland Show: Thrills, spills and fun for everyone at Scotland’s biggest outdoor event

Scotland’s largest outdoor event is packed with four days of fun – expect the unexpected at the 2024 Royal Highland Show

With more than two centuries of farming fun behind them, the organisers of this year’s event are promising ‘acres of epicness’ for visitors, opening it up to a wider audience than ever.

The RHS draws in hundreds of thousands of delighted visitors every year, and while it is arguably the highlight of the rural calendar, there’s much more to the show than cows, sheep and tractors.

It’s a family-friendly delight, with entertainment, events and stalls for all ages, including food lovers, art enthusiasts and those looking for a varied and action-packed day – from biking to bees, this show is creating a buzz!

While tradition remains at the heart of the show, the event is far from conventional. Each year we build and grow on the last with an ever-increasing focus on sustainability while ensuring we continue to elevate the visitor experience

2024 highlights

Fancy a day filled with drama? Watch the daredevil BMX riders, the fiery farriery competition, live chainsaw carving, axe throwing and pole climbing.
Scotland’s Larder, in association with the Scotsman, brings together hundreds of brands – cheeses, fruits, oils, chocolates, spirits and more – to delight foodies. There will also be cookery demos from top chefs at the Food for Thought Cookery Theatre and a huge choice of food vendors.
Making education fun is the aim of the game at the RHET Discovery Centre, with a mix of bookable and drop-in activities for little ones – try cooking, milking Mabel (the fibreglass cow), make candles and tasty honey –sweet! Over in the Countryside Area kids can see live Sealpin Gundog demonstrations, watch the amazing birds of prey and help create a willow lantern. And remember, all tickets for children aged 15 and under are completely free!
Make time for music and dancing, with folk rock, swing and reggae all part of the line up on the West Stage. Of course, it would be a Highland Show event without a ceilidh, which is on every day.

Then indulge in a little retail therapy – whether you want to pick up something unusual for a wedding or birthday gift, premium clothing, pet supplies, art or crafts, there’s plenty on offer. Don’t miss the Home and Gift Hall, including the Scottish Handcrafts Championship, to see some exquisite work.
Visit the renewable village and find out about products to help the planet and you – including wind, solar, hydroelectric, geothermal, tidal and biomass firms.

Traditional events

Much as the RHS is there to entertain, it showcases farming and rural life in Scotland … watch the country’s top shearers battle it out to become Scottish National Champion, or marvel at the heavy horse events.

Don’t forget to pick up tickets for the Royal Highland Hoolie to extend your Royal Highland Show experience into the evening! Presented with Farmers Bash which is back with eight live folk and country music acts performing on the evenings of Friday 21 and Saturday 22 June, including headline acts Tide Lines and Derek Ryan.
