Traffic ban lets 13,000 get on their bikes

MORE than 13,000 people took to traffic-free streets of Glasgow yesterday to celebrate cycling.

It is the second time the event has been held in the city, with a slightly diminished turnout from last year's 15,000 participants. Sky Ride Glasgow, hosted by TV network Sky, British Cycling and Glasgow Life, ran throughout the day along 8km across the city.

Four-time Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy said: "It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying a day out cycling together in Glasgow. I'm sure having the unique opportunity to enjoy the traffic-free streets was a great experience for everybody.
